General Installing

O.K. This tex/latex thing is quite complex and I don't really understand it yet. Anyhow I got the basic installation installed with an apt-get install tetex-latex. This in turn installed all the pre-reqs.

It seams that there are several different ways in which font and various other "tex" related files can be organized. I installed the skak package as follows:

  • Got the package from 'CTAN'
  • unzipped it into /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/skak
  • coppied the .mf files into the newly created /usr/share/texmf/fonts/source/public/skak directory
